Sat, 1st Sep 2012 A Vila Gale Hotel Group tournament was held with one round at Quinta da Ria and the other at the sister course Quinta de Cima, both located close to the town of Tavira. The format was aggregate Stableford points in three divisions, Men 0-12 and 13 handicaps, and Ladies. There were also prizes awarded by Mundo Golfe magazine: the winners being Carlos Marta (0-12 hcap), Guilherme Correia (13 ) and Fatima Pires (Ladies). Carlos Marta also won the 36-hole aggregate gross prize with 66 points, and the net aggregate winners were Miguel de Sousa (0-12 hcap) 80 pts, Jose F. Guerreiro (13 ) 71 pts, and Sally McMiken 67 pts in the Ladies division. |
Sat, 1st Sep 2012 Chris Wood picked up the first professional title of his career on his Asia debut at the Thailand Open. The six foot five Englishman finished 23-under par after four rounds to finish two clear of the fast finishing Dong-kyu Jang who shot a Sunday 63, and a further stroke clear of home favorites Arnond Vongvanu and Wisut Artjanawat, as well as Korea’s Dong-hwan Lee. The win saw Wood jump 11 places on the World Ranking to 160th. The 31 year old Nick Watney has endured a difficult year on the PGA Tour but he put that behind him with a three shot victory at The Barclays. Watney shot a closing 69 and fellow American Brandt Snedeker finished in second place at Bethpage State Park, Farmingdale. Sergio Garcia was seeking back-to-back triumphs after winning at the Wyndham Championship. He went from the top of the leaderboard at the start of the day to a tie for third alongside Dustin Johnson after a four over 75. The win took Watney up to 19th In the World Rankings and an improvement of 16 places. |
Sat, 1st Sep 2012 Keegan Bradley - (USA) WGC - Bridgestone Invitational Firestone - Akron - Ohio - USA - 2nd to 6th August, 2012 Keegan Bradley picked up PGA Tour title number three at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational after compatriot and overnight leader, Jim Furyk, double-bogeyed the last hole to forfeit his lead and finish one stroke behind. Just a week before he defended his maiden Major title at the US PGA Championship, Bradley was supreme on the Sunday by firing a bogey-free 64 to overhaul the four stroke deficit to Furyk starting on the the final round. However, heading down the 18th Furyk lead by a shot, when they both plugged in the green side bunker it looked like his title, but he would managed to double from there as Bradley rolled in from 20 feet for a miraculous par and his first World Golf Championship title. This time last year Bradley was Nº 108th in the World Golf Ranking, but with that title win, Bradley moved up to a career high of Nº 15. |
Sat, 1st Sep 2012 Paul Lawrie - (Scotland) Johnnie Walker Championship Gleneagles - Perthshire - Scotland - 23rd to 26th August, 2012 Paul Lawrie won on home soil for the third time in his career at the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles. One ahead overnight, the 43 year old shot a closing 68 to beat Australian Brett Rumford by four strokes with a 16 under par total of 272. The win took him to position number 30 and very close to his best ever World Ranking (29th in July 2000). This at a time where he says he's playing the best golf of his career. |
