Ricardo Santos was to prove that he is a man for the big occasion when he stormed to victory in the Madeira Islands Open – Portugal scoring a magnificent 63 in the Sunday final round. Ricardo Santos of Portugal came from behind in the field to win his first European Tour Event on May the 13th in Madeira. He starting the final day day four shots off the lead held by Carlos Del Moral. The 29 year old Ricardo ruthlessly slashed the Spaniard’s advantage with four birdies in his first eight holes, leaving him neck and neck with a competitive Andreas Hartø for much of the back nine holes. When his fellow competitors started to fade, Ricardo began to show true form by posting two more birdies at the 12th and 13th holes and moved into the lead. A birdie on the 16th was followed by another at the par three 17th where he holed a snaking 40 foot putt to all but the guarantee victory. To the delight of the crowds gathered around the green on the 18th, he hit his second shot to two feet and holed out with another birdie to set a new record low total – 22 under par and 266 for the event. Ricardo is the first Portuguese player to win a European Tour event on home soil, and the first Portuguese winner of any European Tour title since 1992. This win took Ricardo Santos to 683rd place in the World Rankings. |

Fri, 1st Jun 2012 Nicolas Colsaerts - (Belgium) Volvo World Match Play Championship Finca Cortesin - Casares - Andalucía - Spain - 17th to 20th May, 2012 Nicolas Colsaerts beat Graeme McDowell on the final green to win the Volvo World Match Play Championship. In blustery conditions at Finca Cortesin, the long hitting Belgian continued his remarkable record in Volvo-sponsored events. Since winning his maiden European Tour title at the Volvo China Open in 2011 he has finished third at last year’s Volvo World Match Play, fourth at the Volvo Golf Champions and second at the 2012 Volvo China Open. This win took Nicholas to Nº 32 with an improvement of 19 places. That week's other winners were Jay Choi at the Totoumi Hamamatsu Open on the Japan Golf Tour, Kim Bi-o at the SK Telecom Open on the OneAsia Tour, Nick Flanagan at the BMW Charity Pro-Am. This was Nicolas Colsaerts second win on the European Tour having played in 263 tournaments. He moved to the 177th position in the World Rankings and 108th in the Race to Dubai. |
Fri, 1st Jun 2012 Luke Donald - (England) BMW PGA Championship Wentworth Club - Virginia Water - Surrey - England - 24th to 27th May, 2012 Luke Donald was back on top of the world after a dominant display at the BMW PGA Championship that saw him win by four strokes at Wentworth from joint second placed men Justin Rose and Paul Lawrie. Heading into Sunday two in front, Donald started the round looking a little shaky with a bogey at the very birdieable fourth and then a miss for the birdie at the next from only a few feet. This allowed Rose to pull level, but this was only for a short time as this seemed to act as the catalyst for Donald, who then proceeded to go on to a superb run with birdies at six, seven, ten, twelve and the sixteenth, completing an emphatic title defense which was something he had yet to achieve in his illustrious career. He now begins a fourth stint atop the World Golf Rankings with Rory McIlroy just behind him in second place. Luke Donald moved to 55th place in the World Rankings and 25th in the Race to Dubai. |

Fri, 1st Jun 2012 Louis Oosthuizen - (South Africa) Maybank Malaysian Open Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia - 12th to 15th May, 2012 Louis Oosthuizen bounced back from Major disappointment with a commanding display at the Maybank Malaysian Open to win by three shots from second place Scot Stephen Gallacher. Starting one shot clear, the Masters runner-up never really gave anyone else a chance, shooting his fourth round in the 60s to post an unbeatable 17 under par for the week. It is Oosthuizen's fifth win on The European Tour and his second of the year after his Africa Open triumph in January. This sees the South African complete a triad of top tournaments that has seen his Ranking climb from 38th in four weeks to 12th as the result of these latest triumphs. |
