Sun, 1st Apr 2012 Justin Rose - (England) WGC - Cadillac Championship Doral - Florida - USA - 8th to 11th March, 2012 Taming the Blue Monster is never easy but England's Justin Rose made it look that way en-route in his biggest win of his career so far at the WGC-Cadillac Championship. This was his fourth on the PGA Tour, continuing a run of victories in some of the biggest events on the circuit, having previously won at Memorial, the AT&T National and last September’s Barclays Championship as part of the FedEx Cup series. Starting the day three back of Bubba Watson, Rose had his challengers, namely Keegan Bradley and Rory McIlroy, however he hung tough on the monstrous back nine to eventually take the title by a single stroke. Watson had looked out of it on the front nine, but hit a stunning shot from the right rough on the last to some eight feet to give himself a possible chance, however, when he failed to convert to force a playoff he was consigned to finish as a runner-up. The win saw Rose climb 15 places and up into 7th in the Rankings, while Rory McIlroy in third place finish saw him extend his lead over Luke Donald at the top of the standings. |
Sun, 1st Apr 2012 Julien Quesne - (France) Open de Andalucía Costa del Sol Aloha - Marbella - Andalucia - Spain - 15th to 18th March, 2012 Frenchman Julien Quesne became the 400th different winner in European Tour history on Sunday with a stunning Sunday 64 enough to claim a two shot victory over 54-hole leader Eduardo de la Riva. Quesne, who did not take up the game until he was 17, looked calm and assured throughout the final round at Aloha culminating in one of the shots of the season at the daunting final hole. Faced with a long iron into the tiered green, he fired in a great shot that bounded up the slope towards the pin and leaving him a putt of inside ten feet to almost ensure the victory. He duly rolled it in and after a short wait as others finished their rounds, he was declared the winner. It is Michael Quesne second win on The European Tour, having graduated from The Challenge Tour in 2011, and saw him rise 136 places to 183rd on the Ranking and 43rd in the Race to Dubai. |
Sun, 1st Apr 2012 Michael Hoey - (Northern Ireland) Trophee Hassan II Golf du Palais Royal - Agadir - Morocco - 22nd to 25th March, 2012 With the field playing on the King's golf course in Morocco, Michael Hoey put together a princely display with back to back 65s enough for a three stroke victory. Hoey played almost flawless golf on the Sunday racking up four birdies in a row on the front nine to climb right into the mix. He opened the back side with a very scruffy bogey, having found the wrong green at the tenth, but three birdies in four holes from the 14th gave him a three shot lead that allowed him to enjoy his walk down the last and hole out comfortably in front of the royal gallery that was assembled behind the final green. This being the fourth win on the European Tour, Danny Willett gained a 24 place boost up the Rankings to 74th and 114th in the Race to Dubai. |
