The World number one, who won the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play in February then added The European Tour's flagship BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club in May, closing with a flawless 63. The 33 year old's nine under par round secured a 19 under par total at the spectacular Castle Stuart Golf Links to run out a four shot winner from Swede Fredrik Andersson Hed, who signed for a best of the week 62. Donald stretched his lead at the top of the World Golf Ranking to the extent that only Lee Westwood could overtake him for the top spot at the 140th Open Championship and then Westwood must finish second alone or better, to have a chance to do succeed. |
Mon, 1st Aug 2011 Darren Clarke - (England) The 140th Open Championship Royal St George’s - Sandwich - Kent - England - 14th to 17th July, 2011 Darren Clarke won the 140th Open Championship at Royal St George's by three shots from Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson with a final round of level par 70. Clarke, as the recent winner of the Iberdrola Open in Majorca began the day with a one stroke lead. Mickelson started four strokes behind Clarke but caught him at 5 under par with a eagle on the 7th. He eagled the same hole and kept a clear and growing lead from that point. Clarke becomes the sixth straight first time Major Championship winner and jumped 83 places to 30th in the World Ranking. |
Mon, 1st Aug 2011 Alex Noren - (Sweden) Nordea Masters Bro Hof Slott - Stockholm - Sweden - 21st to 24th July, 2011 Alex Noren registered a comprehensive seven shot victory at the Nordea Masters in his native Stockholm. The 29 year old, who was quite brilliant in setting a course record 63 on the Saturday, carded a closing 77 for a 15 under par aggregate of 273 at Bro Hof Slott. With his second European Tour victory of the 2011 season, following the Saab Wales Open Noren climbed to position number 70, an improvement of 22 places. |
Mon, 1st Aug 2011 Simon Dyson - (England) Irish Open Killarney - County Kerry - Ireland - 28th to 31st July, 2011 Simon Dyson finished his final round at the Irish Open presented by Discover Ireland at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club with two birdies in his final three holes for a four-under par 67 and clubhouse total of 15 under par. Richard Green, playing in the final group behind needed a par to tie but unfortunately for the Australian he three putted from a long distance. Dyson secures a place in this week's WGC Bridgestone Invitational as well as a place in the World's Top 50 as he moved to 48th place. |
