Quinta da Ria Description

The 18 hole Quinta da Ria Golf Course was designed by Rocky Roquemore to take advantage of the natural setting in a Nature Reserve with the blue sea on its southern boundary and is the sister golf course to Quinta de Cima.

A 475 meter par -5 hole sets the tone of the course taking the player down a gentle slope to the first of the several undulating green. The par 3 fifth hole is a challenging dogleg to the left with a lake to catch the short ball. The back nine takes the player close to the beach and the panoramic sea views. The interesting par 4 fourteenth of 333 meters which is another dogleg to the left presents water to the right on the drive and then again inviting water to your left to carry on the approach shot to the green. The eighteenth par 5 of 475 meters has a generous width to the fairway but the green is almost surrounded by guarding bunkers

When I last played this course in 2007 it was in better condition than it is now. The greens were good but soft which meant a lot of footprints so maybe dont play this course at 2pm. The fairways were terrible, very patchy, lush in some places and bare on others, we needed to play preferred lies. The tees were in good condition. Its a pity about the condition because the layout is great, very varied with some great holes. 5,10, 13 and the last 3 holes are nice and a tough finish. Went down hill since 2007 but still a good layout.

I have played golf for 30 years and that is the worst conditioned course for 100 e that I have ever played. The fairways were like cow pastures . Maybe 25 e. Never go back
Shabby fairways

News & Notices

On 20th & 21st of June the Solverde company that owns several casinos throughout Portugal staged the third of its 7th annual series of 36-hole tournaments at the Quinta da Ria golf resort near Tavira. After the first round over the Quinta da Ria course, the players and guests were treated to a dinner and live show at the nearby Monte Gordo Casino, before the Sunday round at the more testing Quinta de Cima. Several players had previously qualified from each of the five tournaments held on northern courses, from Chaves in the far north of the country down to the Algarve in the south.
Several more players earned their places at Quinta da Ria for the season-ending final which will be on 19th-20th September at the Oporto Golf Club in Espinho. There are separate divisions for ladies, men (12 handicap and under, and 12.1 to 24), as well as a gross division. A special prize was given to Domingos Melo Cardoso who had an ace at the 11th hole at Quinta de Cima, and course owner Jose Lisboa provided a few bottles of celebratory champagne for those at the Sunday prize-giving party.
