San Lorenzo Description

San Lorenzo Golf Course in located in the Quinta do Lago Resort and enjoys a reputation for the excellent condition of its fairways and its attractive views around a lake formed by the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve. It was many years ago ranked as the second best course to play in Europe.

The outward first five holes are through the pine tree forest. Water and good hole layouts provides the hazards that play a big part in players having to select the right club and hit with care. The eighteenth is a tricky Par-4 mainly involving a lake that is just waiting for the inaccurate shot.

Where do I start? The clubhouse is abysmal, paint peeling off the exterior, grumpy staff. Look at what Palmares have achieved and have some ambition. Greens, the worst I've ever played in the Algarve, very very slow and bumpy. The course in general, dig it up and start again. Plant grass and put new drainage in. Clear out the rough areas, OK you shouldn't be in there, but way too overgrown. The design of the course must have been done by Walt Disney! The scenery, wonderful if you like mudflats and sewage infected lagoons. WILL NOT EVER BE BACK AGAIN. The green fees are simply a rip off and the buggies not worth the money. Give it a wide berth!!!
Not worth Playing

Terrible condition, fairways all ripped up, greens under maintenance, tired clubhouse, tired facilities, staff who couldn't give a toss quite simply not worth the money, much better courses out there. When mentioned about the condition admitted it was under full maintenance but gave nothing back !!! Will never play here again !!

San Lorenzo has a truly fantastic layout, but it was in pretty poor condition in September. the greens were slow and bobbly, and the holes hadn't been recut for days. The course was generally very scruffy, which was disappointing considering the green fees charged.
Great views, good challenge

Great views, course was overall in good condition. Tight fairways and a great challenge for a range of golfers
