Alto Golf Description

The Alto Golf Course is a 18 hole course located close to the fishing village of Alvor near to Portimao. This course is situated close enough to the ocean to give the player an occasional sea view. A simple par 3 opens your round but it is deceiving to what is in store. The Alto Golf Course is considered a good test of the ability of the player with strategic bunkers, dog-legs, elevated greens and well placed trees. A further noteworthy challenge is the par 5 on the sixteenth that is considered to be one of the longest holes in Europe.

We had a party playing at Alto on 18th June, just after a maintenance week. The course was in great condition, and really tidy. Unfortunately the greens were not quite ready. However the follow up to our concerns were handled superbly by Pestana and Algarve golf to our delight. A couple of our group played Alto again on the 24th and the greens were great. Also having played Boavista and Penina championship on this trip our group agreed that with the greens in good condition Alto was not only the best value but the best course condition.

7th of June, course is in fantastic condition and greens are looking incredible. Alto is always a little challenging as it is tree lined and can play quite tight. The ruff isn't to bad and can be played from. The keepers have obviously made a real effort to bring the course right up to a very high standard.

4th time playing on this trip and 6th overall and I have to say I love this course. It’s not a bombers track but the small greens, well placed bunkering and elevated greens make it a good test of golf. Some of the locals are a bit strange and unfriendly, probably frustrated at holiday golfers on their course but that’s where the money comes from. Could do with a drinks cart assuming there isn’t one as I’ve never seen one. The greens are in excellent condition and so quick compared to the ones back home. The terrace at the clubhouse overlooking the 18th approach and green is excellent and the beer very welcome! This will always be my go to when travelling to Alvor.
