on Mon, 1st Jul 2024 Troops June 2024 We had a party playing at Alto on 18th June, just after a maintenance week. The course was in great condition, and really tidy. Unfortunately the greens were not quite ready. However the follow up to our concerns were handled superbly by Pestana and Algarve golf to our delight. A couple of our group played Alto again on the 24th and the greens were great. Also having played Boavista and Penina championship on this trip our group agreed that with the greens in good condition Alto was not only the best value but the best course condition. |

Alto is always a little challenging as it is tree lined and can play quite tight. The ruff isn't to bad and can be played from. The keepers have obviously made a real effort to bring the course right up to a very high standard. |

on Fri, 31st May 2024 Another great round at Alto 4th time playing on this trip and 6th overall and I have to say I love this course. It’s not a bombers track but the small greens, well placed bunkering and elevated greens make it a good test of golf. Some of the locals are a bit strange and unfriendly, probably frustrated at holiday golfers on their course but that’s where the money comes from. Could do with a drinks cart assuming there isn’t one as I’ve never seen one. The greens are in excellent condition and so quick compared to the ones back home. The terrace at the clubhouse overlooking the 18th approach and green is excellent and the beer very welcome! This will always be my go to when travelling to Alvor. |

Fairways ok and greens well kept though slow. But we think it's sad that they closed the original hole 12 which was a short par 3 and the old hole 16 which was a par 6. The old layout was more enjoyable and original. |

on Wed, 18th Oct 2023 Machrie to Alto My son I had a great round of golf at Alto. It’s a beautiful course with tree lined fairways with quite a few dog legs and tricky. We got hooked up in a 4 ball with another 2 which wasn’t the plan but was really nice. They left after nine and we stormed the back nine and an Irish 4 ball let us through., lovely guys. The greens are excellent and challenging. The course has been well looked after during a very hot summer. Absolutely loved the round. Very expensive and it would have been nice to have been given some Alto tees but we had to buy those as well as hire clubs and the buggy….. not even a bottle of water was provided. That said it was really good day. |

The greens was a good pace and well-maintained (didn't see pitch marks on them) fairways excellent and the rough very fair. We was a 4 ball that played in just under 4 hrs. Well done alto I'm very impressed, I will return and recommend you to other golfers. |

on Fri, 15th Sep 2023 Alto Golf Course Sind jetzt seit einer Woche hier in den Agarven am Golfen, selbst die teuersten Plätze hatten nicht so saftige Fairway's wie der Alto Golfplatz !!! Die Grün's könnten noch etwas besser sein, sind aber durchaus ok. Die Drivingrange ist leider schon sehr in die Jahre gekommen, und die Bälle dazu sind sicher 100 Jahre alt ! Schade das Clubhaus und das Restaurant für Flights ab 12.00h bei Ankunft 16.30h kein Food mehr anbietet, wie so manche Golfplätze ! |

on Thu, 14th Sep 2023 Alto Golf Mud Course was in very good condition in general. A few tee boxes were uneven. The course is good challenge with some tight tree lined fairways and blind tee shots. The greens were in good condition and were a consistent pace. The staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely worth a visit and I would consider playing again on a future trip. |

on Thu, 13th Apr 2023 A testing round A testing, yet fair course. It requires you to methodically plot your way around, especially in a Portuguese breeze. You can leave the driver in the bag for the most part as there is a premium on accuracy over length. The greens are sloping and a good test of your touch. The food and drink is more than adequate and reasonably priced. The English lady in reception was rather too officious however and didn’t have the level of hospitality I would expect from a golf club. All in all an enjoyable experience - and a decent scorecard! |

Ball positionning from tees is a must otherwise it is impossible to reach green in regulation. Green are tricky but in good condition. Fairways are not so good very little grass between the ball and the glasy soil. |

on Sat, 15th Oct 2022 Beware flying balls First time I played this course and I found it a bit odd. Its really set up for those who hit the ball 170-220 yards off the tee. For longer hitters, there's so many blind shots and a lot of slicing required, not fading, slicing. Back nine was a bit better but nearly all the greens are on slopes and the pins were set right on the edge with the only consolation being the greens were fairly slow. I can see why a high handicapper would like it but for those who need to get on the green in two, in some cases this was almost impossible. Add to this the greens and the tees are often very near each other and approach shots of other golfers are often very near the tee box, or even on it, it felt very tight and at times a bit dangerous. Its not a course I'd rush back to. |

Several holes felt like they'd been squeezed in rather than properly designed. The clubhouse and facilities are looking dated and need a refresh compared to others on the Algarve. As a 5 handicapper I enjoyed my visit but I wouldn't go back as it wasn't a big enough challenge. |

The course was closed for a few days recently for maintenance, and the greens have been fed and heavily sanded, which is why only 4 stars. I believe in a few weeks they’ll receive the benefit of the recent work. We hired a buggy and clubs from the resort- the clubs were Taylormade Sim irons and woods, which were in good condition. The tree lines along the fairways mean that you need to be accurate off most tee’s. All in all, a really enjoyable round. I will be back if I get the opportunity. |

It did not disappoint, however, and provided some enjoyable, albeit challenging golf. The greens in particular were very challenging, and some of the downhill putts could race past ending much further away even when simply tapped. Still, very much enjoyed it here. |

on Thu, 7th Apr 2022 We have been playing here since 2004. Not really a course for those who like to hit long shots, for most of the fairways are narrow and curvy. This course requires precision. The fairways, the roughs, the bunkers and the greens are well kept; and the toilets are clean. The driving range is nice, tidy and serene. Have they not closed down the old 12th hole (par 3 ) and turned the old 16th hole from par 6 to par 5, we would've given this course 5 stars. |
