Penina Championship Description

The Penina Championship Golf Course is the grandfather of all courses in the Algarve and a permanent living memory to its architect and active promoter, Sir Henry Cotton. It was originally paddy fields for rice growing that has been converted into a flat challenging course and especially for the stronger player. Something short of half a million shrubs and trees were planted in the conversion. As the fairways are flat Henry Cotton introduced strategically placed water hazards to catch the unwary long hitter.

A bit wet. Very helpful staff who gave us a rain check willingly and arranged another day for us to play. Nice playing partners. Helpful staff in the bar

Nice Design, howeverlooks a bit poor and needs some sprucing up. We played few days before int‘l Amateur Championship and they put participants with „normal“ greenfee Players together at primetime and it took us 2 Hours for 6 holes

The layout and scenery of the course is great, unfortunately the fairways are not in a very good condition, probably due to lack of water. Overall, a pleasant round of golf.

I find everything at Penina a little poorly and the course somewhat boring... We've been there a couple of times and now and I don't think we'll be going back any time soon. It's not bad or anything, it's just that there are so many courses that are more beautiful and fun to play ...
