Robert-Jan Derksen - (Holland) Madeira Island Open Santo da Serra - Madeira - Portugal - 7th to 10th April, 2005 Dutch golfer Robert-Jan Derksen won the Madeira Island Open, a dual ranking event between the European and Challenge Tours. A birdie on the 18th secured Derksen's second European Tour win by a margin of two strokes from Gary Orr and Andrew McLardy. Robert-Jan Derksen climbed 96 places into the World Top 200 at 194th place.

Phil Mickelson won a five man playoff with a birdie at the fourth extra hole to take the Bell South Classic after finishing the rain-shortened 54 regulation holes at eight under par along with Arjun Atwal, Brandt Jobe, Rich Beem and Jose Maria Olazabal. Atwal and Jobe found water on the first extra hole and were eliminated then Olazabal made his exit on the third extra hole. Phil Mickelson then remained at World Nº 4. Peter Lonard from Australia secured his maiden PGA Tour victory at the MCI Heritage in South Carolina. On a dramatic final day Peter Lonard held off the challenge of playing partner Darren Clarke and won by two strokes. He climbed 21 places to Nº 25. Vijay Singh enjoyed a bogey free final round and then triumphed at the first extra hole over John Daly in the Shell Houston Open at Redstone Golf Club.John Daly had birdied 3 of the last 4 holes in regulation but found water with his tee shot on the first play-off hole and Vijay Singh won it with a par 4. Vijay Singh remained Nº 2 but he had closed the gap on Tiger Woods at the top to less than one average point. John Daly climbed 19 places to Nº 34. Vijay Singh secured his third PGA TOUR title of this season when he beat Sergio Garcia and Jim Furyk in a play-off to win the Wachovia Championship. Vijay Singh closed the gap on Tiger Woods at the top to less than 0.2 average points. Sergio Garcia climbed one position to Nº 8, while Jim Furyk improved his World Ranking by 8 places to Nº 18.

Tiger Woods - (USA) Masters Tournament Augusta National - Augusta - Georgia - USA - 7th to 10th April, 2005 Tiger Woods won his sudden death play-off against Chris DiMarco with a birdie at the first extra hole to claim the 2005 Masters Tournament. This was his fourth Green Jacket and his ninth Major Championship Victory. Tiger Woods returned to World Nº 1 and began his 337th week and 9th spell at the top of the ladder. Chris DiMarco, who carded an excellent 68 in the final round to make the playoff, moved up 8 places into the Nº 7 position for the first time.

Peter Hansen - (Sweden) Open de Espana en Andalucía San Roque - Sotogrande - Spain - 14th to 17th April, 2005 Peter Hanson from Sweden won the Jazztel Open de Espana en Andalucia at the San Roque Club after a play-off with compatriot Peter Gustafsson. Peter Hanson improved his World Ranking by 93 places and moved to Nº 135.

Adam Scott - (Australia) Johnnie Walker Classic Pine Valley - Beijing - China - 21st to 24th April, 2005 With this win on the European Tour at the Johnnie Walker Classic played in Beijing, Adam Scott climbed to Nº 6, a rise of 4 places in the World Ranking. World Nº 5 Retief Goosen, finished in second place, 3 strokes behind Scott, and moved closer to World Number 4, Phil Mickelson.

Ernie Els - (South Africa) BMW Asian Open Tomson Shanghai Pudong - Shanghai - China - 28th to 1st May, 2005 Ernie Els won the BMW Asian Open at the Tomson Shanghai Pudong Golf Club on the European Tour. Ernie Els completed his 13 stroke victory on the Monday morning after a weather delay. Ernie Els remained at World Ranking Nº 3 and runner-up Simon Wakefield became Nº 205.
