Algarve Golf News October 2014

Available tee times on all major courses in the Algarve for this October are now far and few between, with some days completely booked with not even the odd slot left for a single golfer. We also find that we are not only handling many bookings for next spring but also for next year's autumn. On the 9th of October our annual Portugal Masters will commence on the Victoria Course in Vilamoura in the Algarve. This year participating amongst the field will be from the Ryder Cup Team will be Paul McGinley, Victor Dubuisson and Tomas Bjorn. Also will be previous winners, Alvaro Quiroz, David Lynn, Shane Lowry and Steve Webster. Please note that the Victoria course will be closed until the 13th of Oct for this annual event.

It was with pride that Europeans saw the Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley raised the trophy on the Sunday at Gleneagles. Our appreciation and thanks go to the victorious Europe Team composed of Rory McIlroy , Henrik Stenson , Vitor Dubuisson , Jamie Donaldson , Sergio Garcia , Justin Rose , Martin Kaymer , Thomas Bjorn , Graeme McDowell , Stephen Gallacher , Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood.

Europe The 2014 Ryder Cup Gleneagles - Scotland - 26th to 28th September, 2014 After a very exciting three days the Ryder Cup stays in Europe for another two years when it is once more contested in the USA. A strong European team headed by Paul McGinley ended the second day with a slight advantage but everything to play for. The final day ended with a 16.1/2 to 11.1/2 win to Europe.

David Lipsky - (USA) Omega European Masters Crans Montana - Switzerland - 4th to 7th September, 2014 The young American David Lipsky claimed his first victory on the Tour winning a playoff with Englishman Graeme Storm. This was David Lipsky 18th Tour event and with this win he qualified for the 2015 Volvo Golf Championship. He currently is placed 154th in the World Ranking and 53rd in the Race to Dubai.

Dewi Schreefel - (Dutch) Helsingborg Open Skane - Sweden - 4th to 7th September, 2014 The 29 year old Dutch golfer Dewi Schreefel gained her first victory on the Tour with a resounding seven stroke win over Australian Rebecca Artis and was closely followed by Laura Davies. This placed Dewi Schreefel in 22nd place on the Handa Order of Merit.

Paul Casey - (England) KLM Open Zandvoort - Holland - 11th to 14th September, 2014 This win gave Paul Casey his 13 victory on the European Tour beating fellow Englishman Simon Dyson by one stroke, followed closely by yet another Englishman, Andy Sullivan. Hardly making the cut on Friday Paul Casey had a sensational round on the Saturday and held the lead to the last hole on the Sunday. He currently holds the 62nd place on the World Rankings and 43rd in the Race to Dubai.

Hyo-Joo Kim - (South Korea) Evian Championship Evian-Les-Bains - France - 11th to 14th September, 2014 The 19 year old South Korean Hyo-Joo Kim had to fight hard against Australia's Karrie Webb to win her first Major by one stroke on the last hole in play. She also claimed a record 61 strokes on a round in a Golf Major beating the previous record of 62 strokes.

Joost Luiten - (Dutch) Wales Open Celtic Manor - Newport - Wales - 18th to 21st September, 2014 Dutch golfer Joost Luiten won his 4th European Tour victory after participating in 156 events. It was a competitive battle ending with his one stroke less against Englishman Tommy Fleetwood and Ireland's Shane Lowry. This win placed Joost Luiten 36th in the World Rankings and 10th in the Race to Dubai.

Connie Chen - (South Africa) Open de Espana Femenino Tenerife - Spain - 18th to 21st September, 2014 The young 21 year old South African golfer Connie Chen gained her first Tour win by two strokes from favorite Carlota Ciganda from Spain. One stroke further behind was Beth Allen from the USA. This victory placed Chen in 23rd place in the Handa Order of Merit.
