Australian Geoff Ogilvy shot a final-round 67 at the par-73 Kapalua Resort Plantation Course to successfully defend his title at the season-opening SBS Championship from South Africa's Rory Sabbatini who finished a shot behind. American Matt Kuchar was third of the 28-man field consisting of the previous year's PGA Tour event winners with compatriot Sean O'Hair in a tie for fourth place with Scotland's Martin Laird. Ogilvy moveed back into the World's Top 10 with a 5 spot jump to ninth while Sabbatini and Kuchar along with Ryan Moore, who finished 6th, all climb into the World Top 50.

Charl Schwartzel - (South Africa) Africa Open East London - Eastern Cape - South Africa - 7th to 10th January, 2010 Charl Schwartzel claimed his fourth European Tour title after his final round of 67 which was good enough to help him secure the Africa Open in East London. The South African as the highest World Ranked player in the field ended with a total of 272 - 20 under par overall - to edge out joint-overnight leader Thomas Aiken by one stroke. The win took Charl Schwartzel to the fringes of the World Top 50 with a 15 place leap to Nº 51.

Charl Schwartzel - (South Africa) Joburg Open Royal Johannesburg & Kensington - South Africa - 14th to 17th January, 2010 Charl Schwartzel followed up on his win in the previous week at the Africa Open with this win in Johannesburg. He finished a solid six strokes of his nearest rivals, Darren Clarke from Northern Ireland and fellow South African Keith Horne. This ninth European Tour win placed him 40th in the World Rankings and 18th in the race to Dubai.

Martin Kaymer - (Germany) Abu Dhabi Golf Championship Abu Dhabi - Abu Dhabi - United Arab Emirates - 21st to 24th January, 2010 Martin Kaymer jumped to a career high at Nº 6 with a victory at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship and the second placed Ian Poulter broke into the Top 10 for the first time as he moved to 10th.

Robert Karlsson - (Sweden) Commercialbank Qatar Masters Doha - Qatar - 28th to 31st January, 2010 Robert Karlsson won the Commercialbank Qatar Masters presented by Dolphin Energy by three strokes from defending champion Alvaro Quiros. Karlsson missed the middle of the 2009 season with an eye injury but the win placed him on track for a third successive Ryder Cup appearance. The victory at Doha has also took Robert Karlsson back into the World Top 20 as he climbed 14 places to World Nº 17.
