Firstly lets put things straight, I am not in the habit of leaving negative reviews, I try to make them as constructive as possible, but I also believe honesty is equally important for other customers. San Lorenzo golf club had a fire recently and the clubhouse is burned to the ground, there is a temporary shop in the car park. Be aware of this before booking there is no changing facilities and no clubhouse facilities and restricted buggy bar facilities on course. We paid over €140 euro to play this course similar pricing to Quinta do Lago North, South and Laranjal courses also in the area. I was led to believe San Lorenzo was a top end course. Well on arrival on the course, tee banks and many fairways showed signs of dead grass and a total lack of maintenance. The standard of sand in the bunkers are a total disgrace. Many of the greens seemed to have some kind of disease and were very patchy. The mono blocked paths around the course for the buggies are also a disgrace and dangerous, many have tree roots underneath pushing up mono blocks everywhere causing uneven surfaces and likleyhood of damaging buggy suspension even at low speed. They say this course used to be one of the top in Europe. I am telling you now, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY TO PLAY THIS COURSE. It is overpriced because of the location mainly Quinta do Lago. Pay and extra 20 or 30 euro and play 3 quality courses next door as in Quinta do Lago North South or Laranjal which are all night and day compared to San Lorenzo. Even the Vale do Lobo Royal and Ocean courses are much cheaper and 100 times better than San Lorenzo. The course is crying out for some serious course maintenance, and a lack of TLC is evident all around the course. Simply not worth the money. Be aware.

Wow what a fantastic set up they have at Valo do Lobo clubhouse, very efficient and helpful staff in reception and buggy station, great practice facilites. The course itself is a gem, remember to take a camera with you as you will play some fantastically laid out holes here with spectacular views. The course is in fantastic condition, many green maintenance staff in attendance fairways, bunkers, greens all faultless. The only issue as with many other holiday courses are the amount of unrepaired pitch marks on the greens, us golfers need to take a good hard look at ourselves with this and repair your pitchmarks...ok rant over. Buggys are all in a new condition, ice box and water supplied, the whole complex is great and the prices to play these courses are very competitive as you are playing a quality course. Can I also say that Algarve Golf are a fantastic company to book with, James Crawford was super helpful for the whole time we were there and could not do enough for us to ensure our stay and experience was 5 star.

The Royal course like the Ocean is another which is maintained to a very high standard and I found in fantastic condition. Some stunning holes topped by the 16th signature hole. Some of the holes have fair distances from green to tee but that adds to the excitement as you dont know what you will get next. I see some comments about pitch marks on greens, yes I repaired about 4-6 on each green as I did on every course I played in Algarve, you cannot blame the course or resort owners for totally selfish golfers who do this!!!! There is some cracking holes on this course and it was well worth the asking green fee. Buggy station guys were so helpful and spikes bar is a great place to sit for a refreshment after your round. Highly recommend.

We played the challenge and the prime combination for our 18 holes. The front 9 was had some really nice holes, tees, fairways and greens in really nice condition, some parts of the course rough about the edges but fully playable. The back 9 I found the rough just a foot off the fairway and penal and struggled to find balls in it. It should not be as long as that as near to a fairway it was like there was no 1st or 2nd cut!!! Apart from that issue it was a decent course and more than acceptable for holiday golf. It is definately a notch below the Vale do Lobo or Quinta do Lago courses. Clubhouse had very nice facilities and the staff were very nice and friendly, all in a very pleasant experience.
