on Sun, 29th Sep 2024 Wild Boars attack greens Course is in rough shape with 3 greens unplayable due to being damaged by wild boar on or about September 24, 2024. The staff was wonderful and we opted to play despite the disclosure, at checkin, about the damGe and temporary greens and damage. The courses exceptionally dry, the two stars is because we had the course to ourselves, saw one other couple, the whole time One Star, second star was the friendly staff! |

on Sun, 5th May 2024 Friendly staff. The course is difficult off the tee with narrow fairways and lots of trees. Fairways are a bit brown and dry, but the greens are in good condition and the ball rolls nicely. Beautiful nature around the course. Overall a positive experience, would play the course again. |

on Sun, 21st Apr 2024 Not as good as I expected Only played the resort course but it wasn't as good as I expected. Not very interesting, not very tidy. The 2 sets of tees are basically in the same place so no imagination there. All the buildings, signage etc looks tired or in need of fresh paint. I would hope the Championship course is better. Alto golf is cheaper and far better with 18 holes. |

on Thu, 16th Nov 2023 At great day at a wonderful old course What a wonderful day at the course. It was the people here that made the difference. Both Pro Shop and Restaurant staff were especially kind and responsive to our every question. The course itself in need of a large cash infusion. Maintenance is happening to the primary areas but it appears that the budget isn't allowing for full course grooming. Meaning fairways, bunkers and even to a larger degree the rough. We lost more balls today than any round I can recall. In spite of this, it was a lovely day, we enjoyed playing and we would at least consider coming back again to try the Championship Course. Food at the restaurant was delightful and all servers were please t and attentive. Food came out fast and was top notch. |

on Wed, 27th Sep 2023 Avoid paying to play this course!! Course is in very poor condition. Course manager apologised……..in his words “Wild boar have been causing damage to the greens”. Electric fence has been installed to keep them out. Unfortunately the fairways are also in very poor condition…weeds proliferate everywhere …..even in some green side bunkers. Not worth paying to play this course at the moment. |

on Sat, 19th Nov 2022 Ideal for a good practice round We played the 9-hole resort course twice, and it was better than expected. Not a technical course nor a very challenging one, but fun to play, with reasonable greens, quite long, a nice and very green environment. Ideal for mid to higher handicaps, or anyone, simply to enjoy a practice round. We found the reception very welcoming and helpful. It is a fully flat course, so easy to walk. |

on Fri, 28th Oct 2022 Não gostei muito esso course. Tem vantagem que é barato, mas é porque são 9 buracos. Melhor jogar só por uma volta de 9 buracos que fazer 2 voltas até fazer 18 buracos |

on Mon, 19th Sep 2022 Poor Sir Henry would turn in his grave. This course has not been properly kept up to an acceptable standard. The tee markers are a disgrace and the overall ambience is shabby. Bunkers 'raked' by tractors are compacted, lumpy and generally unplayable. Trees need maintenance too. Greens were reasonable and flags new but holes imperfect and ball falls into grubby ancient cups that don't appear to have been renewed for years. A complete disappointment on a sound piece of land. |

on Mon, 4th Jul 2022 not to our liking. Didn't realise when we booked this through Teetimes we where playing the resort course and this is nothing like the championship course ( our error maybe ) but expect it to be at least like a good members course but more like a municipal park course with not a lot of grass on the fairways but the only saving was the greens are in reasonable condition. |

on Mon, 6th Sep 2021 A good experince at Penina Very friendly staff. The resort course, which we had booked, was in very poor condition. A good outcome for us. |

on Fri, 6th Nov 2020 Three old gits on a golfing week in the Algarve This course was in dreadful condition. Wild boars have caused damage in many areas but that wasn't the main problem. The fairways were patchy in place (i,e, with no grass), and had weeds growing out in other places. It appears that they hadn't been watered for weeks. The greens were consistent, save for one which was a temporary one, caused by boar damage on the real green. Overall, it appears the Pennina Group ploughs its funds into the championship course and ignores the Resort course. Very disappointing. We will never return. |

on Wed, 6th Nov 2019 Small resort course ( 9x2) Good course for starting with on a vacation. Greens are good but very flat, not hard to read. Fairways are flat and wide. Not a big challenge, can be played easily in around 4 hours unless allowed to get overloaded. |

on Wed, 12th Jul 2017 Very enjoyable Very friendly and efficient staff ensured that the hiring of clubs and buggy went very smoothly. The course could perhaps do with a little TLC, but it played very well - don't forget, this is a course where a handicap certificate is NOT required. I feel that some of the more negative reviews have been a little harsh because of this. As well as this, there are also comments about 'not knowing' that the Resort Course is a 9 hole course. I find this hard to believe as both the Penina and Algarve Golf websites clearly state as such. All in all, and enjoyable experience. |

on Wed, 26th Oct 2016 Poor relation to Championship Bit of a poor relation to the Championship course across the road, greens were ok but a little scruffy off the fairways. Quite long at times, it's only 9 holes that you play twice from similar tee positions. Ok fora game but would be first choice. |

on Tue, 27th Sep 2016 Not worth the money We played this course on our first full day in Portugal and what a dissapointment.Vastly overated and living on its reputation. The course wasn't in great condition, the staff weren't particularly friendly. On the day we played it was scorching hot we werent given any water and there wasn't any available on the course. We saw the drinks cart once and even then he ignored us and drove past us even though we got his attention. We had to nip into the clubhouse at the 10th to buy a bottle of water which was 7euros what a rip off and added 15 minutes to our round. This was the most expensive of the 5 courses we played and we played it a few days before the season changed and the prices went up. Overall this was the worst course we played both in terms of the quality of the course and the overall experience. Not worth the time or the money, wish we had played somewhere different that day. |
