Penina Championship Description

The Penina Championship Golf Course is the grandfather of all courses in the Algarve and a permanent living memory to its architect and active promoter, Sir Henry Cotton. It was originally paddy fields for rice growing that has been converted into a flat challenging course and especially for the stronger player. Something short of half a million shrubs and trees were planted in the conversion. As the fairways are flat Henry Cotton introduced strategically placed water hazards to catch the unwary long hitter.

Ein traumhaft schöner alter Platz, der uns viel Spaß gemacht hat! Die Fairways und Grüns waren einwandfreiem Zustand. Schade, dass die Wege, Randsteine, Pfosten der Penalty areas und die Schilder an den Tees erkennbar verwittert waren. Das trübte ein wenig den sonst tollen Eindruck und auch die sehr sandige Driving Range könnte ein Update vertragen. Wenn das also der „Großvater“ unter den Plätzen an der Algarve ist, dann sollte Großvater mal zur Kosmetkubd sich aufhübschen lassen.

Loved it. Somehow we joined the practice round for the Portuguese Amateur Championship :-) You should get in the hotel for the buffet breakfast for 16 euros

A well laid out course with lots of nice holes. Long wide fairways in general. Good greens in nice condition. Fairways quite brown and bare in some places but playable.
