Alto Golf Description

The Alto Golf Course is a 18 hole course located close to the fishing village of Alvor near to Portimao. This course is situated close enough to the ocean to give the player an occasional sea view. A simple par 3 opens your round but it is deceiving to what is in store. The Alto Golf Course is considered a good test of the ability of the player with strategic bunkers, dog-legs, elevated greens and well placed trees. A further noteworthy challenge is the par 5 on the sixteenth that is considered to be one of the longest holes in Europe.

News & Notices

Further improvements to the Alto Golf & Country Club are taking place, coinciding with considerable restructuring of the resort. In January, the complex announced that Commandant Jose Barroso Pereira and Dr. Nuno Barroso Pereira had acquired a significant stake in the business. More golf course maintenance equipment, re-fitting of the golf shop and major landscaping improvements to the clubhouse surrounds are some of the projects under way. Mr. Ed Edwards has been appointed as the new Resort Director, having previously held senior management positions in golf resorts in the USA, Egypt, Oman and Ireland and consultancy roles with golf developments worldwide.
The 'Ernesto de Sousa Cup' was held on the Alto Golf Course near Alvor and was won by Amíliar Fonseca with Pedro Miguel Sousa in second place.

Reviews

A Day at Alto GC 30 Jan 2017

Trevor from United Kingdom
I played this course 10 years ago, it has been improved since and was in good condition this time. The course is well laid out and the greens are running true. The driving range is okay but tee areas badly divited, some mats would be useful as an alternative. Hired clubs were worn but acceptable.
Fast greens!

James from United States
Greens were really fast and had a lot of slope. Green superintendent must have had a bad night because some pin placements were just not fair.
Disappointing

Jeff from United Kingdom
Tough and challenging course Difficult to read greens Unfortunately course very wet today and in poor condition
