Vale do Lobo Ocean Golf Course Tips

Hole 1 (Par 4)
429 399 359
A comfortable opening hole with a tee drive to the left half of the fairway. The approach shot needs to be a low runner to the right which allows the slope to direct the ball to the green.

Hole 2 (Par 4)
347 286 257
This hole is a little more demanding. From the tee aim left of centre between the two pine trees leaving a short approach over a large bunker, but do not be too short! There is Out of Bounds on the right, and play the approach well into the green.

Hole 3 (Par 5)
497 457 409
A hole which is an unsighted dogleg to the left. The tee drive should be to the right side of the fairway and avoiding the bunkers further to the right. Most players will lay up on the second shot and only long hitters will attempt to carry the lake.

Hole 4 (Par 4)
381 368 336
This fourth hole is a from the back tees bends to to the right. From the red tee the hole is less formidable. The tee drive must be aimed to the right edge of the cork three leaving a mid iron to a well bunkered uphill green. Do not overhit the green or there will be a difficult downhill chip or bunker shot.

Hole 5 (Par 3)
198 165 142
The short hole has an open approach to the green but it is guarded by bunkers at the left side and two at the rear. A wayward shot could land in the right hand side lake so a right of the green is the best option leaving an uphill putt.

Hole 6 (Par 5)
416 410 358
An interesting hole with a fairway shaped as a crescent. The tee drive should be aimed to the left hand side of the water well in the middle of the fairway. When the wind is assisting the green can be reached with two strokes. Otherwise, lay up to the left of the green to leaving a solid pitch.

Hole 7 (Par 3)
171 166 149
This longish hole is deceptive. The tee drive is to the right half of the green as the surface is sloping from right to left. An accurate good strike is necessary to carry onto this well defended green by bunkers.

Hole 8 (Par 4)
385 374 305
The hole is a dogleg to the right. The tee drive should be the left of the fairway to leave an uphill second shot. Big hitters might make it to the green in two strokes, otherwise, play for the middle of the bunker at the top of the hill leaving a short pitch to this deep green.

Hole 9 (Par 4)
347 326 304
The ninth hole is a dogleg to the left. Aim for the left side of the little bridge short of a water hazard and also the lake. The approach to the large green is demanding so a par will be well earned.

Hole 10 (Par 5)
445 435 418
This is the first hole on the returning nine. Tee drive should be aimed to the left side of the fairway. The second shot can be a short lay up in front of the stream crossing the fairway. The large undulating green has a big bunker on the front right hand side.

Hole 11 (Par 4)
413 386 355
A harsh hole with a blind shot from the tee. Aiming over the left side of the fairway bunker at the top of the hill will leave you a mid to long iron into this spectacular well bunkered green with its attractive sea and beach backdrop. The green runs at an angle from the left front to the right back.

Hole 12 (Par 4)
379 292 273
The twelfth hole requires another blind tee shot. The tee drive should be aimed over the edge of bunker at the top of the hill. If it gets over the hill it will leave a comfortable shot onto the uphill green. When the drive does not clear the hill then a strong blind shot to this sloping green will be the result.

Hole 13 (Par 3)
144 135 94
An uphill short to a well protected front bunkered green which is two tiered. The tee drive needs to be close to the flag leaving an uphill putt in order to achieve a birdie. This green is quite demanding!

Hole 14 (Par 4)
346 344 332
The hole requires a drive to the left hand side from the elevated tee. The second shot can reach the green with a high to mid iron. An alternative is with a low iron shot to bump and run though the big basin at the front of the green with its ocean backdrop.

Hole 15 (Par 3)
195 180 137
The fifteenth hole runs alongside the sandy beach. Bunkers to the front and right, a sandy waste area an Out of Bounds on the left makes the tee drive demanding. Accuracy and careful club selection is imperative.

Hole 16 (Par 5)
483 433 409
A hole requiring a blind tee shot to the right as the slope will bring it back to the centre of the fairway. The clever second shot should be to the bottom of the slope leaving an approach to a green defended both left and right by bunkers.

Hole 17 (Par 3)
144 135 126
This exquisite medium long par 3 is through umbrella pines and cork trees. From the tee drive left and any short shot will find bunkers lie in wait. The green is large and slick particularly for any downhill putts.

Hole 18 (Par 5)
411 376 340
A final long hole to finish the round. From the tee keep left of centre of the narrow fairway to leave a good line into a large and two tiered green. Beware of the deep bunker front left and take an extra club to reach the elevated green.
