on Fri, 15th Nov 2024 Back to its best. I’d read loads of negative reviews about the condition of Palmares in the summer of 2024 because of the drought they had in the algarve, but a friend played recently and said it was getting back to its best so I booked it. It was the best course we played out of Vale De Lobo and Espiche, mainly due to the superb greens, which were quick and true. You can see a few bits of the course that still need to received slightly after the summer, but the new head green keeper seems to be doing a superb job and the course is back to its best. |

on Thu, 24th Oct 2024 The clubhouse is amazing, the course isn’t. Start with the only plus point, the clubhouse is amazing. The course however is far from the expectation when you see the Clubhouse. Patchwork Greens with variable speed. You could see where the different grass sections had been laid. Erratic speed and generally poorly maintained course that was built (squeezed) on the side of a hill. No marker posts on any of the (many) blind crests! Mind numbing slow play. Absolutely hated it. Could have left after 9 holes but kept going to see if it improved. It didn’t. Could not wait to leave. |

on Sun, 6th Oct 2024 Played on final day of golf trip. Had seen a lot of negative reviews about both course and staff but that was not our experience. Yes there are patches where fairway is brown but lies not affected. Greens were good but difficult to read. Some really good holes with great views of bay. Service at check in and in bar excellent. Some very steep climbs so would definitely get a buggy next time! |

on Tue, 3rd Sep 2024 Lovely course but needs greenkeeping attention Second year we have played it and whereas other courses like Penina have improved after challenges with having enough water, Palmares is not in best condition with burnt fairways and patchy greens. It’s a beautiful course well laid out and challenging with great views, needs to be in much better condition to justify the green fees. |

on Tue, 9th Jul 2024 Course in poor condition , but we still had fun Course: the fairways were very dry . Greens had patches on them and were all different speeds. Not many people on the course and it felt very private. Nice views. Not worth the money for condition of the course, but we still had fun. |

on Mon, 6th May 2024 Building Site with a Poorly maintained golf course I had booked 2 rounds at Palmares from the UK and was looking forward to playing a course that I have thoroughly enjoyed on many previous occasions. Unfortunately, the course now has the feel of a dried out municipal course suffering from neglect. I remember not too long ago playing Palmares and being very impressed with the conditioning of the course. The tees were almost like the greens at my home course! Unfortunately, this is now not the case. I would be surprised if there are worse greens on the Algarve. I’ve attached a photo to show the problems that were typical of every green on the Praia/Alvor combo. When you arrive at the complex you are immediately aware of the huge amount of construction going on. There are staff trying to sell you apartments and plots and there is even a Michelin star restaurant in the clubhouse. All this is fine, but a golfer who is paying >€150 for a round just wants a good course to play. Needless to say I cancelled the 2nd round that I had booked and I would not recommend this course to be on anyone’s schedule until they put as much resources in to the course as they are in to the building work. |

on Tue, 7th Nov 2023 Poor Palmares. Do not visit Palmares!! I booked and paid for a tee time four four players and two buggies. On arrival I was informed that there were no buggies available. I explained that I needed the buggies as one player had an injury and could not walk the course, and was told to come back just before our tee time. Not a good preparation for a round but we got the buggies with two minutes to spare! The tees were in poor condition. The fairways were very bare in places with little or no grass coverage in areas, the bunkers were in very poor condition and had not been raked. The worst part were the greens which were in an appalling condition with bare patches, holes and obvious signs of disease. This was the most expensive course in the area and I would advise anyone thinking of playing it to go elsewhere. |

on Thu, 19th Oct 2023 Palamares - the course should be closed The course should not have been open, all the greens and tees were clearly in a very bad state of repair (lack of water is a poor excuse, they appeared to be diseased. The bunkers on the Praia course were also very poor condition, some sides caved in and sand 60cms deep in some places. Providing free buggies and one beer is hardly compensation, the course should be closed until all greens and tees are repaired or even relaid. |

on Fri, 13th Oct 2023 recent reviews don't lie. In a nutshell the greens (and tees) were really poor. We found that the staff tried hard to be realistic ( free buggy and free drink) and an apology before we teed off but the reality is that what has been a splendid course (on past trips) is well below standard for the price. It's a shame and we hope it will recover. |

on Mon, 9th Oct 2023 Not sure I totally agree that course was in a bad condition because of wild boars and drought. Nice gesture for free buggies but I would have thought 25% off green fees would have been more appropriate. They have spent a lot of money of clubhouse in recent times. |

on Sun, 8th Oct 2023 Overambitious! We were promised free buggies as compensation for poor course condition, but none available. Exasperated staff kindly brought them to us on the seventh hole. The resort is expanding massively but management has failed to get the small things right...check-in, bar area, pro shop all too small, crowded and chaotic. Course condition badly affected by drought and wild boar. Three stars only because of friendly staff, otherwise would have been worse |

on Thu, 5th Oct 2023 Urgent need of water A fantastic course in urgent need of unsalted water to save the greens. on Thu, 5th Oct 2023 Urgent need for water Was very saddened to see Palamares in the condition it is in. Was so looking forward to playing it. They have a problem with extracting water from the reservoir due to the lack of rain for months. So they are using salt water which is causing disease and killing the greens. It is such a shame because if you look beyond this it is a stunning course in every way. Just because the greens are suffering there is no need for golfers to not repair pitchmarks they are just exacerbating the problem. I hope they can get the water issue sorted before the greens are too far gone. With all the real estate being built would it not be prudent to build a desalination plant. This problem will only worsen without a water supply. |

on Tue, 3rd Oct 2023 Dreadful Greens not worth 115 Euros a round The course although a lovely set up was really disappointing. The greens and Tee boxes on the 9 hole Alvor course were dreadful ! The green were covered in damage, lots of white sand patches and had not been looked after. Apparently they had been trampled on by wild Boar. Equally the Tee Boxes were terrible. We were provided with a free buggy but if we had the option of not playing and getting a refund I would have gone for that option. Really poor. on Fri, 29th Sep 2023 Course condition is awful & it's a shame. Simply awful - and it's a shame. Beautiful location, with stunning views of the surrounding area and a fabulous clubhouse. Unfortunately thats where the good stuff ends. A Course lives and dies by the condition of its greens and these were the worst I've played on in 30 years - and by a mile. Patchy, diseased, hundreds if not thousands of pitch marks over the 18 holes and bunkers that looked like they hadn't seen a rake in days. We payed twice as much for this course as we did for the 3 others we played and they were twice as good - Silves in particular. What was particularly annoying was the buggy master trying to defend the condition of the course when we finished. I don't think I'd ever return! |

on Fri, 8th Sep 2023 Save Palmares I, along with two friends played the Palmares on 2nd September 2023. I’ve played the course numerous times from 2014 and I love it. However, I could not quite believe the state the course has been left to get into. The greens were simply in a terrible state, they were diseased , dry and not cared for at all. Also, most frustratingly, the pins were cut in diseased areas. The tee boxes were nothing short of a shambles. The fairways, unkept and the bunkers in a terrible state. There is much construction and I can only assume that the current management team are focussed on That as opposed to the golf. We were not made aware of the state of the course beforehand, then when we complained afterwards there was no apology or offer of partial refund. There was just an explanation about the water supply. However, every other course we played was in great condition. We had travelled from Scotland and we will not be back at Palmares until this situation is resolved. I was gutted to see the state of disease and disrepair and total mud management of what I consider one of my favourite courses. |

on Mon, 17th Apr 2023 It was just 'Okay' and we left disappo We booked this round on line from Canada and also reserved two sets of rental clubs. At $30 EUR per set I would have expected a sleeve of golf balls would have been included. We have golfed all over and when ever we've rented clubs at a premium golf course, a sleeve of balls have been included Also, for the price we paid, the practice range was closed for maintenance. We know it's still early in the season but the course was very dry and really wasn't in great condition...definitely not for the price charged. Great club house and great views but more attention is needed on the golf course condition and customer service. Overall, it was just 'okay' and we left disappointed. Thanks, Colin Porter |

on Fri, 24th Mar 2023 Pass The staff and service was excellent., the views are beautiful, but that’s where it ends. Tee boxes and greens were in decent shape, however the fairways are bare and dry. No one from the club monitors or manages the pace of play, so expect to play a 5 hour round and not play through slow groups. I do not recommend their rental clubs - one of our sets was a beat up and filthy dirty set of Callaway XR’s. They also allow non players to wander the course looking for lost balls while you’re playing. Overall - not good value when paying premium rates. |

But the worst experience was with the staff manager behind the reception. There were no buggies available and we had to take an electric trolley. Price for the 2 trolleys was €40 versus a buggy of €45. After 9 holes we wanted to change the trolley for a buggy. There were plenty available. on Thu, 25th Aug 2022 10-27 Early morning game at Palmares today playing holes 10-27. I would say that the layout and views on holes 10-18 were about as good as it gets! Absolutely stunning. The 19th-27th was average overall I’d say with a few good holes and a few really poor ones. This 9 was also pretty burnt out and after the first couple didn’t have much scenery really. Overall quality of the greens wasn’t great to be honest but tees and bunkers were excellent. Having not played the 1-9 holes it’s hard to say for certain but I’d imagine playing this course as 1-18 would be want u want to try and do as if they’re anything like holes 10-18 then despite the greens being a bit ropey I’d have given it 5* regardless |
