Gramacho Silves Golf Vale da Pinta |
The village now boasts two nearby 18-hole golf courses, the Gramacho Golf Course and the Vale da Pinta Golf Course. There is also the Vale de Milho friendly 9-hole course located on the east side of the village. There is a very active Tennis Club on the west side and for family entertainment in the summer the popular Water Slide Park.
LAGOA, Somewhere between 1242 and 1246 the Moors took possession of this then small-fortified hamlet. From this past the town of Lagoa has since grown into an administrative town for the local area including Carvoeiro. It is conveniently situated very close to the motorway making it easy to travel to either the west or back to Faro.
SILVES, The attractive and historic City of Silves was once the capital of the Algarve. Standing proudly on a hill it can be traced back to existing some 1.000 BC. Evidence shows that it was already a place of note in Roman times but it really became an important place during its Moor occupation for about three centuries. Giving it the name of 'Xelb', they constructed lavish palaces and created the cultural centre of learning for the whole Iberian Peninsula. Imported lions and other wild animals are recorded to have roamed freely through exotic gardens in the various palaces. The remains of nearly all its historic buildings were destroyed during the 1755 earthquake. The city has suffered very little change due to the advent of tourism. Located in the countryside between the City of Silves and the town of Lagoa is the 18-hole the Silves Golf Course.
