Golf in Tavira

The town of Tavira is one of the most architecturally attractive towns in the Algarve and its origin backdates to around 2.000 BC. During the occupation of the Algarve by the Moors this town was given considered importance due to its fishing industry. Like most of the Algarve towns, mainly all the major buildings including its castle were destroyed by the earthquake of 1755. The immediate beach for Tavira is reached by a ferryboat that takes the visitor to the long attractive sand-bar island known as 'Ilha de Tavira'.

In the immediate area are 3 excellent golf courses to the east of the town. The first is the 18-hole Benamor Golf Course, the next are the 18-hole Quinta de Cima Golf Course and its' sister course the 18-hole Quinta da Ria Golf Course. Some distance further away to the north-east is the excellent 18-hole Monte Rei Golf Course.
