Continuing the trend of the two previous years, the winner of the 2008 Portuguese Ladies Open at the Quinta de Cima course was another French player, Anne-Lise Caudal from Biarritz. This was her first win in her short professional career on the Ladies European Tour - a mere nine days shy of her 24th birthday. After establishing a sensational ladies course record of 64 (9 under par) in the first of the three rounds, she never relinquished her lead, although she finally closed the deal by scoring 203 (16 under par), only a single stroke less than her compatriot and good friend, Gwladys Nocera, and Georgina Simpson from England. Anne-Lise, who was runner-up in the 2006 Portuguese Amateur Championship, took home a €30,000 cheque along with the Trophy.

During the second week in October, the Quinta de Cima course near Tavira in Eastern Algarve hosted the 'Algarve Seniors Portuguese Open', the second last tournament of this year's 'PGA European Seniors Tour'. Sam Torrance, seeking to overtake Carl Mason in his bid to win the Order of Merit, had an excellent opportunity on the penultimate green to break out of a 4-way tie for first place with Jerry Bruner, Eddie Polland and Jose Rivero. He unfortunately missed a slick downhill 8-footer putt for birdie. Sam Torrance then had to pull out all the stops on the difficult par-4 final hole after Jerry Bruner hit his second shot onto the putting surface, some 30 feet from the hole, and he followed suit by placing his ball a few feet closer. However, it was the American who sank his left to right putt, and under this added pressure, Sam Torrance missed, leaving him in a tie on 10 under par with Eddie Polland and Jose Rivero. The result left the Scot a mere 245 Euros ahead of Carl Mason in the Order of Merit going into the final Seniors event in Bahrain from 10th to the 12th November.

The 'Casinos do Algarve & Quinta da Ria Masters', a 54-hole professional event on this year's PGA Europro Tour calendar produced a thrilling decider with the Limerick Pro, Tim Rice, edging out Lee Slattery from Southport at the second play-off hole after tying on 204, or 12 under the Quinta de Cima par. Slattery, who won the year-end Europro Tour Championship at Parque da Floresta in 2001, started the last round in 2nd place on 136, one behind Mark Smith, and with birdies on the 1st four holes, but followed this with 14 pars. Rice, however birdied holes 14, 15 and 16 to force the tie, and eventually take the £12,000 first prize - an early present for his 27th birthday on 3rd June. Slattery took home the £6,000 runner-up cheque, with Mark Smith earning £3,000 for 3rd place on 10 under par. Dutch rookie Inder van Weerelt who had come in equal 6th at the recent East Lothian Masters fell to a 38th finish after a promising opening round of 68. Inder's parents are keen Vilamoura Golf Club members who have dedicated several years co-organising the Junior Golf School.
