Located in the centre of the village of Monchique and close to the Town Hall. A smart 35 year old Tasca style restaurant covering two rooms which was originally a grocery store. It enjoys local fame for its specialized regional dishes prepared and served in a homely style. Some special Monchique deserts will provide the finish to a hearty meal. Need to park around the church or in the underground parking and walk to to the restaurant.

A typical family run very small country Tasca with a limited interior table space. Serving good traditional Algarvean cuisine at sensible prices. Recommend arrive early in order to have a table. In the summer more tables are made available on the terrace to the back of the building. Possible to make a prior reservation.

Certainly one of the first Chicken Piri-Piri restaurants in the Algarve. Still very small, still very rustic, and still very good. The restaurant can be found about half way up on the Monchique to Foia road. It is set slightly above the road on the left hand side with a small parking area facing on the right side. There is a crowded inside room and an equally crowded outside terrace. It is probably wiser to make a reservation.

This restaurant can be found on the village front facing the Alvor lagoon. There is a small inside area for dining but the main area is a large enclosed outside terrace. This is a busy location especially in the summer season and there are many other similar good seafood restaurants in the immediate vicinity. They all serve fresh seafood and some Portuguese specialties and this restaurant was chosen because of the particular friendliness of its table staff and busy atmosphere.

The restaurant is part of the Estalagem on the Monchique to Foia road owned by Sr Gildo and with panoramic views from its outside terrace over the coast. The cuisine is distinctly regional in style with some sacrifices to international tastes. In the winter the atmosphere is improved by the warmth of an open fireplace.

This popular restaurant is located on the left side of the road before reaching the railway bridge on the old EN 125 between Portimao and the Penina. It was very popular but slipped during the last years. However, in 2014 it upgraded its decor which presents a pleasant interior but still maintaining a touch of style. The service is back to being both friendly and efficient, with the cuisine a good mixture of traditional Portuguese dishes and international favorites. In general be prepared for generous helpings! It is also popular with the local Portuguese businessmen and quite busy most weekends and accepts Credit Cards.

Sr Fernando and his son Paulo run an attractive style Tasca restaurant near the Post Office. The décor is lively rustic in nature, the appearance is towards fresh and clean, the service is friendly and the food is a sensible mixture of traditional dishes with a selection of safe international favorites. It is also worth asking what is the dish of the day and the deserts are to be recommended as they are personally made by Paulo.

This restaurant is particularly recommended for its great location being on the quayside and overlooking the River Arade with its busy traffic of passing boats. The atmosphere is airy and with its many windows providing its best views. Some of its cuisine are made to appeal more to the Portuguese clientele but they have a good and varied menu. Accepts Credit Cards and is located close to the Portimao Museum.

A very popular seafood restaurant with local Portimao residents and businessmen. A good selection of fresh fish and local Portuguese dishes available every day. Has won several awards for its cuisine. Located in the old quarter under the bridge and lunch time can be very busy. The main sitting area is in a glass covered area in a small protected square. Credit Cards accepted and is always open.

Located in the countryside at Alcalar and owned and run by Carlos Manuel. Located to the north of the Hotel Penina on the EN 125. This restaurant has a rustic decor and an outside covered terrace. Its cuisine whilst satisfying International tastes also provides quality regional dishes at reasonable prices. There is often live music at the weekends during the season so reservations are recommended.

An attractive country style restaurant owned by Antonio Baiona. He specializes in truly traditional cuisine serving Monchique mountain specialties with an added attractive flavour from having been cooked in a oven heated by wood. Pleasant inside rooms and dinning outside in the summer under the trees makes a most charming evening atmosphere. Located just off the road that circles above the village of Monchique. Take the road to Foia for about a kilometre and then take the first right.

They declare themselves to be the best Pizzeria in the Algarve with homemade Pasta. Located almost opposite the Hotel Algarve in the main street in Praia da Rocha. During high season they are very busy at night creating a good cheerful atmosphere - with an indoor room and outside terrace for smokers.

A down to earth tourist restaurant run by Jose Canelas and his wife set on the Monchique to Foia road. The wife Augusta and her staff are responsible for the cuisine and the husband Ze keeps an eye on the table service. Besides the traditional mountain meal of Chicken Piri-Piri, the cuisine is distinctly local cuisine, generous portions and regional deserts, all of which attract many local businessmen at lunch time. An outside terrace provides views down to the distant sea.

It is to be found on the main road from Portimao to Alvor on the right-hand side and is located in a villa set back from the road with a parking area in the front. Always busy even in the winter months.

An unpretentious restaurant that is well run and modestly decorated. Serves a three course lunch with generous portions of local cuisine for 10.00 - dinner slightly more expensive. Specially recommended for its monthly Sunday night of Fado with its more genuine atmosphere and singing of the traditional special songs and music distinctive from Lisbon and Coimbra. Located just off the Portimao V6 road by taking the turning left at the roundabout with the Repsol Petrol Station on your right. The restaurant is about 600 metres ahead on the left.

A friendly tiny and very Tasca style restaurant spread through two rooms recently renovated. Opened in 1946 by its present owner Zeca Pinhota. It specializes in fish, shellfish and Portuguese specialties. Family run, this restaurant is a typical example of the excellent places that made the old Portimao so popular for eating. Located in a very narrow street under the old bridge of Portimao with some tables in the actual road. Parking is along the front of the river and the restaurant is normally very busy in season.

This Tasca is a must for all lovers of local traditional Portuguese mountain food served in a typical unpretentious atmosphere. Choose from the large portions of the dishes of the day and follow them with great home made deserts. Attractive drive from Monchique and restaurant on the right side just before reaching the village of Marmelete. Recommend prior reservation if eating at the weekend.

Located on the ground floor of a block of apartments the restaurant has a décor that creates a sense of period opulence and perhaps more in keeping with that of the famous Titanic liner. The choices on the menu will meet most tastes and is backed by a good table service under the watchful eye of Daniel Moreira. A reservation is recommended especially in season.
