This said, the course is way off its best and the yesteryear lush and green fairways have given way to brown bare lies unbefitting of the course. Even the greens are suffering and the course is in desperate need of some tlc and investment. The staff remain excellent and attentive as always. |

For the most expensive course we have played in the algarve, this was a poor golf experience. Which is a shame because all the staff we met from start to finish were first class but the cousre condition did not deserve paying €170 each. The front nine particularly was terrible: fairways were bare in so many places and the greens were poor, presumably because of the drought conditions in the Algarve. It was the worst kept 9 holes we have played this year. However the back 9 for some reason was in better condition. It also has a more 'natural' feel to it. Will not be going back |

When we played the course was in fairly average condition with scrappy fairways and greens having been fertilised. It is a great golf course though, but not the best in Portugal. Such a shame the surrounding foliage has been damaged by wildfires in recent years. The service though is un-paralleled in Europe. From the bag drop, free buggies, plenty of visits from the buggy bar, to the superb pro-shop, friendly staff and excellent bar, you will not be disappointed. I highly recommend paying €5 extra for the post round tapas, which is basically a 3 course meal! |

on Thu, 15th Jun 2023 Disappointing This was my 3rd visit to Monte Rei and would have to say that the condition of the course was slightly disappointing. The welcome and attitude of the staff was, as usual, first class. The practice facilities were excellent but I feel there has been a definite decline in the condition of the course. The fairways are very dry, the greens a bit bumpy in places with some showing signs of disease and the bunkers were inconsistent with signs of grass growing through the sand. This course has always been the pinnacle of my visits to the Algarve but I think it may be my last as it is increasingly difficult to justify the undeniably high fees for an disappointing experience. If you do play the course, pay the extra €5 for the tapas. It is outstanding value. |

on Tue, 9th May 2023 Disappointed I played Monte Rei for about the 6th time last week and for the first time I was disappointed. The service and organisation was excellent, as usual, but the course!! Greens very good, Fairways, poor, Bunkers, the worst I've seen them. The water from the watering system which gathered in the bottom of them, turned them rock hard. None of our group were complimentary of the course. I won't hurry back. |

on Mon, 27th Mar 2023 Still one of the very best :) My third time at Monte Rei and I love everything about the course: it's challenging, especially yesterday when the wind was giving us a hard time (although that's fun as well) but still fair and you get to enjoy marvellous views. The greens still are difficult and at times you have to think about your course management, or simply 'go big or go home / no guts no glory' :) Hence, when we arrived in the morning, at 11.15, there was no possibility to order some breakfast and the way that message was delivered, could have been more friendly. Having said that, at the end of the day, we had the most friendly gentleman serving us for dinner and making us special mocktails :) So, all in all, looking forward to visit again! |

on Fri, 27th Jan 2023 Toller, schwerer Platz mit ausgezeichnetem Service Absolutes Highlight an der Algarve. Sehr schwerer Platz in einem ausgezeichnetem Zustand. Kaum ein Loch ist flach und die Grüns sind sehr schnell und schwer anzuspielen. Die relativ harten Fairways erleichtern das Spiel auch nicht gerade. Mittlere und höhere Handicaper sollten ein paar Bälle mitnehmen. Der Empfang ist sehr freundlich. Abschlagzeiten alle 12 Minuten und Buggy, Bälle auf der Drivingrange sind im Greenfee inkludiert. |

The, greens and fairways are excellent but a lot of the surrounding trees and shrubs have been destroyed in the forest fires. Its a shame as some of the holes not touched by fire show how beautiful this course has been. |

While the weather was not the best during our round, the course didn't live up to Monte Rei's marketing promises and our expectations, given the ultra-high green fees. The staff is very friendly and helpful, but too many details like a slow buggy, not well-maintained bunkers, and rusty steel rakes (!) made for a poor experience. We're not coming back to Monte Rei. |

It fell off having been driven about 250 meters and the driver shaft snapped on the tarmac cart path,. Monte Rei denied any liabilitysaying that it was impossible for their staff to make a mistake in fixing the bag, and it must have been my fault ! Truly shocking |

Everything around the fairways and greens has burnt down and the result is really catastrophic. Not only is the scenery not very nice, but the fairways and greens are no longer in 'competition' condition. In short, our advice is not to go to Monte Rei while waiting for the vegetation to grow back and for the gardeners to take over. |

on Tue, 21st Sep 2021 Disappointing Monte Rei... sadly. With a stellar reputation, the course at Monte Rei was unfortunately, very disappointing. Due to some recent terrible bush fires in the area, the course was protected by the staff by utilising the irrigation system extensively. Although the course was saved, the measures taken severly damaged the overall condition of the course. The staff, however, were excellent and we have been offered a complimentary return visit next year. The most disappointing aspect though is not being told of the condition prior to booking and being charged the full amount (€220 per person). Travelling to Monte Rei expecting a wonderful experience to be then greeted with a 5/10 course in terms of condition, is very annoying and extremely disappointing. Although I applaud the efforts of the staff in saving the course in what must have been very difficult circumstances, the facts should have been communicated to agents and individuals allowing a choice of whether to play at this time. |

Disappointing to note, however, that the greens were notably slow and many had inherent diseased grasses. For the high cost of playing, the greens really ought to be in better condition (as they invariably have been in the past when we’ve played there previously). |

The greens were very fast with lots of borrows. We had a very friendly welcome & we found the staff very helpful & charming. We bought the Tapas package & would highly recommend this as the variety of food plus the amount was spectacular value for money |

We have played golf in many places including the Algarve, USA, Tunisia, Morocco, Spain, UK (including The Belfry), Ireland (Lahinch...fantastic in itself). I'm not sure if the layout, course condition, customer service, scenery, quality of course, greens, attention to detail could be bettered ANYWHERE on this planet. Every hole is in its own environment, and you do not see anyone else playing at the same time. |

From the valet and club drop through the pro shop with the welcome gift, out to the terrace for some lunch and then out on to the course. Every member of staff was polite and made you feel extremely welcome. Cannot speak highly enough of everyone involved. Now the course.....simply stunning. Every hole is picturesque and grabs your attention. Difficult but not too difficult and a great test of all aspects of your game! Hole 13 definitely goes down as my favorite. This will be on the rota every year from now on! |

I have a high handicapand and it was a joy to play, the par 3's are very difficult but you just have to 'manage; your way round. The club house and staff were also outstanding - well worth a visist |

The facilities are lovely, and the condition of the course is superb. The staff is most accommodating. This is not a course that can be walked as a practical matter due to the distance between some holes, so it is cart only for good reason. |
