I had booked 2 rounds at Palmares from the UK and was looking forward to playing a course that I have thoroughly enjoyed on many previous occasions. Unfortunately, the course now has the feel of a dried out municipal course suffering from neglect.I remember not too long ago playing Palmares and being very impressed with the conditioning of the course. The tees were almost like the greens at my home course! Unfortunately, this is now not the case. I would be surprised if there are worse greens on the Algarve. I’ve attached a photo to show the problems that were typical of every green on the Praia/Alvor combo.When you arrive at the complex you are immediately aware of the huge amount of construction going on. There are staff trying to sell you apartments and plots and there is even a Michelin star restaurant in the clubhouse.All this is fine, but a golfer who is paying >€150 for a round just wants a good course to play.Needless to say I cancelled the 2nd round that I had booked and I would not recommend this course to be on anyone’s schedule until they put as much resources in to the course as they are in to the building work.
